David and Cherie have been based in Johannesburg, South Africa since 2002, and joined the OC team in 2009. Chicago-area natives, they both were staff members of a local church there before beginning their full-time work in Southern Africa. David served in the missions department, and Cherie in the (middle-school) youth ministry.

David and Cherie have been blessed with 20+ years of marriage, and enjoy spending time with each other in nature, with friends and in traveling (especially exploring Southern Africa!)

David’s work is focused on pastoral leadership development, working to increase and improve training for church leaders. David builds partnerships between pastoral training organizations and equips pastors through conferences, workshops, teaching materials, and ‘pastoring of pastors’ networks.

Cherie leads a team that operates a high school ministry in an informal settlement, and is involved in coaching and training other youth ministry leaders. Cherie also ministers to women at a local HIV + AIDS hospice care center, she leads the HIV + AIDS ministry of her local church, and she trains, coaches and encourages leaders in their churches’ response to the AIDS pandemic.

David offers coaching and training in several areas: church renewal, pastoring of pastors, missions, building partnerships, cross-cultural ministry, church administration, leadership, organizational development, adult education and more.

Cherie offers coaching and training in HIV + AIDS issues and in youth ministry.
