We have lots of answered prayers this week!
When Kevin and Erica fly home on Monday, their departure will end 24 days in a row of having company stay with us. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve loved it and would do it again, but it will be great to have a slower week and our house back to ourselves. Dan has told me I am not allowed to schedule anything else for awhile! In the last 6 days, we’ve done lots of meal hosting. We’ve had dinner or lunch appointments with 3 pastors and their families, 3 different missionaries couples here for dinner (not including Kevin and Erica who are here every night!) and lastly today was &ld ...

My sister Julie left to return to the USA on Wednesday evening and we promptly changed the sheets to make the guest room ready for our missionary friends Kevin and Erica Pippert who arrived on Thursday! They will be with us for 10 days teaching at a conference here in Johannesburg.
We really enjoyed the time with Julie, introducing her to some of our friends here, showing her around and having some adventures exploring new places with her. This is the Hartley's first attempt at BLOGGING! We have been sending weekly and monthly updates via email to family, prayer warriors, missionary committee people, and to a handful of former friends who now get way too much missionary email spam from us! Now those deep thoughts are now optional for the masses to view also! We hope that you will be blessed and encouraged by what God is doing here in Africa.

We had a full, interesting week – thank you for your prayers. Last minute Dan was asked to step in and teach at a conference that our boss wasn’t able to attend. We drove 5 hours north to a place called Piet Retief and Dan and our teammate Craig taught on leadership on Tuesday. Then we drove 3 hours that night to Swaziland and then Wednesday our teammate John gave a report on the nationwide research project our team is spearheading at the Conferences of Churches. Happy Mother’s Day to all you Moms out there!
I am going to try my attempt at BLOGGING! I have been sending out weekly updates to some family, missionary committee folks, the committed prayer warriors on our team and some unlucky former friends who now get tons of missionary spam emails from us! Hopefully this way a few others of you interested in the comings and goings of a missionary couple in South Africa can periodically check in as well and catch up on our news.
