My sister Julie left to return to the USA on Wednesday evening and we promptly changed the sheets to make the guest room ready for our missionary friends Kevin and Erica Pippert who arrived on Thursday! They will be with us for 10 days teaching at a conference here in Johannesburg.
We really enjoyed the time with Julie, introducing her to some of our friends here, showing her around and having some adventures exploring new places with her. It was really special to have her here for some baby appointments and she is delivering some ultrasound pictures back to the grandparents in the states. J
The next couple weeks will be full of the usual missionary things…Dan is working with some other team members in a Vision Renewal program that he was recently trained as a coach in. He also will be doing increasingly more with our website, building computers for pastors, and networking with other youth pastors. He is likely going on a trip to Zimbabwe to teach on youth ministry in early Oct. I have been busy putting together a ministry schedule for a short term gal named Erica who is joining our team for a month. Dan and I will have her in our home and will be shuttling her around to various ministry sites. Contrary to our previous short term team, we can leave Erica with ministry partners for several days and don’t have to be with her 24/7. I am also in process of trying to get a few more small business projects off the ground with Buhle in Slovoville and have a meeting with her and Pastor Themba (her husband) tonight over dinner to propose a class I’d like to teach a couple days a week at their church for people who are HIV+. The Red Cross Clinic next door refers people to come to their church for food a couple days a week. Most of the patients are involved with jewelry making while they wait several hours for lunch and I’d like to teach them some skills for healthier living with their positive status and teach them about God in an informal Bible study. As far as we know, none of the 15-20 are believers yet.
Thank you for your love and prayers for us.
Please keep praying for our health and safety. We read in the newspaper Friday that house burglaries are up 60% in the last year (probably because we are now part of those statistics having been robbed last year ourselves!) and it is stressful for us to be living in such a high crime area. Please pray also that we will have wisdom as we sort through ministry options for the next couple months – knowing what to say “yes” or “no” to.
Baby girl Hartley has been very easy so far
