Braam Fischerville

For a number of years, Jay and Sarah Gerhart have been involved on numerous levels in a community development project in the government housing section of Soweto, called Braamfischerville. It has been a challenging environment in a community of families from different tribes and with differing world views.

The major focus has been to support Hermina Seqoibane, a very dear, godly woman, who serves unofficially as the spiritual leader in her neighbourhood. Hermina is committed to fighting against injustice and meeting numerous needs in the community, including the running of a pre-school for 65 children.

Under her guidance an income generating project was begun three years ago to provide a source of income to families with no bread winners in the home. It took the shape of a sewing centre, which has now developed into The Soweto Sewing Company with a diverse selection of products. See their website at www.sowetosew.co.za. Sarah continues to disciple the women as they study the Bible together on a regular basis.
